We use high-density polystyrene for a few key reasons:

1. Insulation.
In order to improve the health of bees, we massively increase the insulation of their home. This means they spend less energy maintain the temperature of the hive, and more time foraging, cleaning the hive, laying brood etc.

2. Ergonomics.
Polystyrene beehive components are less than half the weight of their wooden counterpart. We also have thicker walls on our boxes (1 1/2 inches), meaning deeper handles.

3. Longevity.
Our hives are built to last 25 years+. Thanks to the stability of high-density polystyrene, it holds up against the weather significantly better than wood.

At this stage, our hives are not compatible with wooden hives or flowhives. This is due to the interlocking design we use, and our thicker walls.

We manufacture our hives in our warehouse in Canberra, Australia.

We ship container loads of our products to Missouri and ship our products straight to customers directly from there.

Our hives are rated to last 25 years+.
This is because unlike wooden hives, polystyrene does not rot, hold moisture or expand and shrink throughout the seasons.

No, Styrofoam is a brand of expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is a very low density.

Our hives are made from a very high-density EPS - in fact it is so high density, that we're the only manufacturer in Australia capable of making EPS at this density.
